Kinja'd!!!

That’s certainly unique.

I’m on the fifth floor of a crazy looking custom home, with a dog that has been barking nonstop for an hour and an owner who clearly has no idea how to train her dog. I am always amazed at how people can live thinking it’s perfectly acceptable to have a dog that goes off around strangers. Oh and not to mention how shitty it would be to be their neighbors.... Maybe it’s different in other areas, but around here a good 50% of dogs are poorly trained. Well... It would be more accurate to say that the owners are poorly trained. Too timid, trying to get their pets to stop barking with treats and softly spoken “Bela, no. Bela, no. Bela, please. Don’t, worry, she’ll stop barking eventually”

Oh well. I guess I could add an annoying yappy dog fee..? Anyways, I’m not looking forward to the exterior of this home. The rule of thumb is “the crazier looking the house, the more difficult it will be to do” and that certainly holds true here.

The neighbors have an 8 hole mini golf yard. Nice.

Kinja'd!!!

View from a fourth floor pane. Half the windows are barred bec they directly on the floor. Ugh. Someone come help

Kinja'd!!!

(update) After an hour and a half of constant barking the dog has been put outside. And is still barking. Yeesh

“put an angle-y window here whose angles align with no surrounding angles”

Reminds me of when I was was selling windows at Lowes. I would probably just laugh if they came in wanting a window like that.

Wonderful design, a combination of edgy and dull. Perfect for the area.

70's house I think. The “updates... ” are not great. The original stuff... Some of it is interesting at least. Mercer Island still has a good mix of homes

I keep coming back to “maybe they were trying to go for a moon thing...?”

If so, decent-ish idea at best. Poor execution

I’ll grab an exterior pic later. It’s no better

It’s as though they had a really big shard of broken glass laying around and said “yeah make that work”

I was going to say maybe the builder broke the original piece and decided to try getting away with a “modern design twist” to cover his ass.

Also upcharge, because of course

Yeah, there is some nice older material on the island, at least for now. I went to an estate sale in a custom 70s house out there last month. The house was traditional (faux colonial rather than the other styles of the time - faux hacienda or edgy and woody) and not amazing in terms of architecture, but the kitchen was untouched and pretty cool.

Why are the windows barred? I don’t quite get it.

This is why there are people who don’t like dogs. Although these people are lazy and don’t have the patience or want to care for the dog which they dislike, because they suck and can’t cope with their responsibility to said dog. Now it’s a mystery why these people would have dogs if they are this way.

Also what do you do? Clean peoples windows?

I’ve come to be very weary of small dogs. Seems much more rare to find large dogs that bark nonstop. Have you ever seen an unhappy golden retriever? Exactly.

Yep, window washer. I’ve run a smallish company for about four years now, serving everyone from that one old lady next door to the richest man in the world.

You’re right about small dogs. There’s a Ron Swanson quote, “Any dog under 50lbs is basically a cat, and cats are pointless.”

Also that’s an awesome business! It reminded me of when I worked staining/painting decks... so many interesting things you see in a given day.

Like do they have an elevator? I can’t imagine walking 5 flights of stair to get from the garage room to my bedroom. I’m assuming the whole first floor is garage because why wouldn’t it be.

Yeah, 1st floor is garage, massive storage room, a utility room with water heater, generator, fuse box etc. Kitchen, dining and living room 2nd floor. Master suite 3rd floor. Bedrooms 4th floor. Big office and a loft 5th floor. Cool layout but yikes. So many stairs... Wierd part is that this is an older home, built before there were the current land constraints and real estate prices.

No elevator, all the staircases are aligned, one over the other

U lyke bigg howse..? Here are the top 3 floors. My 36ft ladder barely reaches the 3rd floor (bottom two floors are vaulted, as is the top floor). This place must have been designed for the sole purpose of being irritating to workers

The windows that are barred are your standard bedroom windows, with a sliding pane. These are set directly on the floor (which is very unusual) so a kid could easily open the window, lean against the screen and fall out

I just realized my picture doesn’t quite show it, but the floor is literally right below the wood window trim

Mercer itself would make a nice course. I posted something like that on FP back in the day, can’t find the image now. Only issue is the endless hordes of cyclists.

That window looks like it was originally designed for the top. Like it was the concept window and then someone realized it wouldn’t work and they were like, “umm, use it for the bathroom.”

Best guess of any. The whole house is filled with questionable design choices
